Operation Bear Claw; 3 Persons Convicted For Insurance Fraud

I found this whole story hilarious and I'll share it words by words according to the reporter @ TheFeedski on Facebook.

A group of people in the Los Angeles area came up with what they thought was a foolproof insurance scheme. Bears regularly break into cars and homes across California, particularly in mountain communities around Lake Arrowhead. Nobody questions a bear claim.

So they rented a cabin near Lake Arrowhead, drove up in a 2010 Rolls Royce Ghost and got to work.

One member of the group put on a bear costume and climbed inside the Rolls Royce, damaging it. They filmed the whole thing.

Then they submitted the footage directly to their insurance company as evidence of a genuine bear attack and filed a claim.

The insurance company flagged it as suspicious.

Investigators from the California Department of Insurance reviewed the footage. Then they called in a biologist from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife to give an expert opinion on whether the animal in the video was a real bear.

The biologist confirmed it was clearly a human in a bear suit.

What investigators found next made it worse. The same group had filed two additional fraudulent claims with separate insurance companies on the exact same date and at the exact same location, this time involving a 2015 Mercedes G63 AMG and a 2022 Mercedes E350. Three luxury vehicles. Three separate insurance companies. One bear costume.

Police executed a search warrant on their home and found the costume.

The California Department of Insurance named the investigation Operation Bear Claw. Three people were convicted of felony insurance fraud and sentenced to a weekend jail program and probation. The total fraudulent claims came to nearly $142,000.

This is scam on another new level πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚.....
