Tinubu Visits Jos as Fresh Violence Erupts, Security Tightened Across Plateau

President Bola Tinubu has decided to personally visit Jos following the recent wave of deadly attacks in Plateau State, which left over 27 people dead and many others injured.

The decision came after a meeting with Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. During the meeting, the governor briefed the President on the worsening security situation and the urgent need for stronger intervention.

In response, Tinubu postponed his earlier planned trip to Ogun State, choosing instead to visit Jos to assess the situation firsthand and sympathise with affected communities.

As part of immediate security measures, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has ordered the deployment of Police Mobile Force units, tactical squads, and intelligence operatives to Plateau State. These teams are expected to reinforce security, prevent further breakdown of law and order, and track down those responsible for the attacks.

However, despite efforts to stabilise the situation, tension remains high. Shortly after the state government relaxed the curfew to allow residents move around for limited hours, fresh violence broke out in parts of Jos. Hoodlums reportedly attacked residents, vandalised vehicles, and created panic across several areas, forcing many businesses to shut down again. According to reports, there's no clear motive behind these attacks.

Security agencies have yet to arrest any of the perpetrators, raising concerns among residents about safety and the possibility of further unrest.

The crisis has also disrupted normal life in the state. The University of Jos has ordered an emergency evacuation of students from its hostels due to safety concerns, while the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has suspended ongoing activities across Plateau State.

In response to the renewed tension, authorities have tightened security presence across affected areas and introduced additional curfew measures in some locations to prevent further escalation.

Residents have been urged to remain calm, stay indoors when necessary, and cooperate fully with security agencies as efforts continue to restore peace and bring those responsible to justice.

We'll keep you updated on any new developments.
