“Swipe, Cheat, Repeat: The Dark Side of Modern Love”

I was watching a TV show where the speaker talked about relationships. He said that marriage or relationships are archaic, and that they were used in the Stone Age for emotional and physical dependency. He went further to explain that people needed support in their daily routines and to raise children, so they looked for partners. According to him, relationships are not really needed in modern society.

However, I totally disagree with that idea, although modern relationships in my country have five major problems:

1. Ladies are seen as materialistic, and men often just want sex and then move on to the next person. Some ladies are low-key prostituting themselves, while some guys are paying for what they want. It has become like a transaction.

2. Technology has created a barrier. Everyone is entangled in it, and it is creating distance even when we live in the same house. Likes, comments, and shares have replaced authenticity and self-confidence. People now see them as validation, allowing others to define their worth. Some ladies would do anything for attention on the internet. We even see free porn and nudes from people’s serious partners, all in the name of chasing clout or social media challenges. I’m sure the next generation will be worse.

3. Cheating has been normalized. Whether online or offline, it always starts somewhere. People now appreciate compliments from others more than from their partners. Comparison creeps in, and they end up having fun with someone else.

4. Communication cannot be overemphasized, as it is one of the pillars of any successful relationship. Everyone is busy trying to fix their own lives that they barely realize their partner needs them.

5. Open relationships, in my opinion, are one of the greatest challenges in this part of the world. Nobody wants to be committed anymore. People just want to share their bodies with whoever satisfies their cravings.

It all goes back to what the TV presenter said: relationships leading to marriage may be going extinct, and everyone is trying something new. Commitment is no longer seen as freedom. Instead, people want freedom without being “cuffed” by a ring 💍.
